Stir it up at school

Parents and Schools

Lifelong healthy eating habits start at an early age. Cooking classes encourage students to experiment with a wide variety of nutritious foods and help them develop a healthy relationship with food and eating. Cooking classes also provide students with the opportunity to learn cooking techniques and skills that they will have for the rest of their life and grow their confidence to incorporate new foods into their diet.

Need for Feed teaches students the life-long skills of cooking and nutrition that can be shared with their family and friends. Each program must consist of a total of 16 hours of engaging lessons with 15-20 participants.

Need for Feed believes cooking should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all participants. The program provides students with the opportunity to develop their cooking skills with the guidance of qualified staff and fosters a supportive cooking environment, making the experience both safe and enjoyable.

Need for Feed programs are held on school premises within the school Home Economics room or another suitable cooking venue. Facilitators are usually Home Economics Teachers but may also be recruited from outside of the school and are paid for their time by Diabetes Queensland if working outside of their normal pay hours. Diabetes Queensland provide resources and support  to ensure each program is a success and a fun filled experience is had by all students.
